Federal law requires drivers of commercial motor vehicles (DMVs) to receive regular physical examinations. These exams are defined as the “Department of Transportation Medical Examinations.” DOT physicals are highly regulated for the drivers’ safety. They detect physical, mental, and emotional issues that can affect a driver’s ability to safely drive a commercial vehicle. DOT medical examiners are specially trained to understand the regulations and prevent drivers from being inappropriately disqualified.
Why did the FMCSA regulations change?
Driving a commercial motor vehicle means long, hard hours on the road. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has updated the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to better reflect the physical demands drivers face and to help them be safer on the job. The new regulations require all medical examiners performing DOT physicals to:

Hearing is Vital
Our brains are wired to process pictures and sound every minute of every day. When a key input is lost or severely diminished, it can have a profoundly negative effect on the ability to interact with the world around us. As time goes by, hearing function predictably deteriorates for many patients. In many cases, the inner ear is simply wearing out from time and a lifetime of exposure to noise. It is important to identify these changes as they occur and to track them year-to-year.
When problems do occur, we have clinical staff, equipment and technology to help.
We offer a full menu of hearing-related services performed by licensed clinical staff:
Detailed patient history, physical exam and symptom review
Comprehensive 4-part audiometry
Referral for ENT specialty consultation as needed
Hearing instrument selection and fitting
Hearing instrument programming and fine-tuning
Cleaning and repair
