Fairview's Blue Cross Blue Shield Contract

France Avenue Family Physicians will not be affected by the contracting negotiations of Fairview and Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Even Blue Plus subscribers under Fairview Physician Associates contracts will continue to receive fully covered care at our clinic.

Blue Cross Blue Shield members and Blue Plus subscribers may pay for some care at Fairview hospitals and facilities at out-of-network levels starting January 1st, but not at France Avenue Family Physicians.

Free wireless internet access in our lobby!

France Avenue Family Physicians is pleased to offer free internet access to our patients.  We find this is especially useful for allergy shot patients and patients who need lab work which requires them to wait extended periods of time between tests.  So, bring your laptop and enjoy our complementary internet access while you wait!

Did you know...

School age children need 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.  This may seem like a lot but the 60 minutes can also be broken up into different segments.

Activities should be primarily fun for your children.

Vary activities to keep your kids interested.

If your kids have not been active prior to now, start with 20 to 30 minutes a day and increase the routine by 5 minutes a week to avoid injury.

Reduce sedentary activities like excessive television watching, video and computer games, and telephone conversations to less than two hours per day.

Activity ideas depend upon age...

6 to 9 years:  game activities such as tag and hopscotch

10 to 14 year-olds:  individualized activities like swimming or ballet, or organized sports such as baseball or basketball

15 to 18 year-olds:  physical activities become more structured like weight lifting, road race running, and other competitive activities

What are the benefits of regular physical activity by school-age youth?

  • Improves muscular strength and bone density
  • Keeps body fat at healthy levels
  • Reduces disease risk factors
  • Improves mental health
  • Keeps the heart and blood vessels in good shape
  • Improves athletic performance

What should I be doing as a parent to be an advocate of physical activity?

  • Be active yourself.  Your kids will model your good behaviour.
  • Keep your child involved.  Provide your children with opportunities for access to safe, fun physical activities.
  • Be supportive.  Remind your children that physical activities should be fun!
  • Try to involve the whole family in physical activity.
